Hypertension: Lodical is indicated for the first line treatment of Hypertension. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.
Prophylaxis of Angina: Lodical is indicated for Prophylaxis of Angina. Lodical may be used alone or in combination with other antianginal agents.
The usual oral dose in Hypertension or Angina is 5 mg once daily with a maximum dose of 10 mg once daily.
Digoxin: Absence of any interaction between Amlodipine and Digoxin in healthy volunteers has been documented in a controlled clinical study.
Warfarin: A study showed that Amlodipine does not significantly alter the effect of Warfarin on Prothrombin time.
Cimetidine: A study showed that no interaction between Amlodipine & Cimetidine in healthy volunteers.
Amlodipine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Dihydropyridine (e.g. Amlodipine, Nifedipine, Nicardipine, Isradipine).
Amlodipine is well tolerated. But Headache, Edema, Fatigue, Nausea, Flushing, Dizziness, Gum Hyperplasia and Erythema multiforme are reported.
Pregnancy: Safety in pregnancy of Amlodipine has not been established.
Lactation: It is not known whether Amlodipine is excreted in breast milk. It is advised to stop breastfeeding during treatment with Amlodipine.
Since the vasodilatation induced by Amlodipine is gradual in onset, Acute Hypotension has rarely been reported after oral administration of Amlodipine. Nonetheless, caution should be exercised when administering Amlodipine with any other peripheral vasodilator particularly in patients with severe Aortic Stenosis.
