Cyclovin (Dicycloverine Hydrochloride)

Description:

Cyclovin (Dicycloverine Hydrochloride) is a competitive antagonist at muscarinic cholinergic receptors. In addition, there is an evidence of a direct antispasmodic effect on smooth muscle of human bladder.

Composition:

Cyclovin Tablet : Each tablet contains Dicycloverine Hydrochloride BP 10 mg.

Cyclovin Syrup : Each 5 ml syrup contains Dicycloverine Hydrochloride BP 10 mg.

Indication:

Abdominal pain, which comes and goes (Colic), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), infantile colic, urinary incontinence secondary to unstable detrusor muscle.

Dosage and administration:

Children aged 6 months to 2 years: Cyclovin (Dicycloverine Hydrochloride) may be given 5 to 10 mg up to 3 or 4 times daily; doses are usually given 15 minutes before meals.

Children aged 2 to 12 years: Cyclovin (Dicycloverine Hydrochloride) may be given 10 mg 3 times daily.

Adults: 10 to 20 mg of Cyclovin (Dicycloverine Hydrochloride) given 3 times daily, up to 40 mg 4 times daily has been recommended where adverse effects are tolerable.

Side effect:

Side effects of Dicycloverine Hydrochloride include constipation, transient bradychardia (followed by tachycardia, palpitations and arrythmias), reduced bronchial secretions, urinary urgency and retention, dilation of pupil with loss of accommodation, photophobia, dry mouth, flushing and dryness of skin.

Contraindication:

Obstructive uropathy, obstructive disease of the gastrointestinal tract, severe ulcerative colitis, reflux esophagitis, unstable cardiovascular status in acute hemorrhage, glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, evidence of prior hypersensitivity to Dicycloverine Hydrochloride or other ingredients of these formulations.

Drug interaction:

The following agents may increase side effects of anticholinergic drugs: amantadine antiarrhythmic agents (e.g quinidine), antihistamines, antipsychotic agents (e.g phenothiazines), benzodiazepines, MAO inhibitors, narcotic analgesics (e.g meperidine), nitrates and nitrites, sympathomimetic agents, tricyclic antidepressants and other drugs having anticholinergic activity.

Overdose:

The signs and symptoms of overdose are headache, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, dilated pupils, hot & dry skin, dizziness, dryness of the mouth, difficulty in swallowing and CNS stimulation.

Storage:

Keep in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture.

Packaging:

Cyclovin Tablet  : Each box contains 10 x 10's tablet in blister pack.

Cyclovin Syrup :Each bottle contains 50 ml syrup.
