ZODIN (Ranitidine)

Pharmacologyg:

Zodin (Ranitidine Hydrochloride) is a competitive, reversible

inhibitor of the action of histamine H2 receptors, including receptors on the gastric cells. As a result of its H2 receptor blocking action Zodin promotes rapid and effective ulcer healing with sustained pain relief, both day and night by a reduction in gastric acid output.

Composition:

Zodin Tablet       : Each film coated tablet contains Ranitidine Hydrochloride USP equivalent to 150 mg of Ranitidine USP.

Zodin Syrup        : Each 5 ml Syrup contains Ranitidine Hydrochloride USP equivalent to 75 mg of Ranitidine USP.

Indication:

1. Gastric & Duodenal Ulcer

2. Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease

3. Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome

4. Erosive Oesophagitis

5. Pathological Hypersecretory Conditions

6. Chronic Episodic Dyspepsia

7. NSAIDs Induced Ulcer

Dosage and administration:

Tablet

         By mouth: Twice daily for 4 to 8 weeks.

         Duodenal ulcer : Twice daily; 2 tablets at night for 4 to 8 weeks.

        Maintenance dose: 1 Tablet at night.

Syrup

       By mouth: 2 tea-spoonfuls twice daily for 4 to 8 weeks.

       Duodenal ulcer : 2 tea-spoonfuls twice daily; 4 tea spoonfuls at

        night for 4 to 8 weeks.

        Maintenance dose: 2 tea-spoonfuls at night.

       Child: Peptic ulcer: 2-4 mg/kg twice daily. Maximun 4 tea

        spoonfuls daily.

        Reflux Oesophagitis : 2 tea-spoonfuls twice daily or 4 tea-

        spoonfuls at night for upto 8 weeks.

        Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: 2 tea-spoonfuls 3 times daily.

       Gastric acid reduction: 2 tea-spoonfuls at night time.

Side effect:

Ranitidine may cause reversible confusion, headache, malaise, constipation, diarrhoea, increased SGPT, hepatitis, anaphylactic reactions, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia. It may also cause rarely tachycardia, bradycardia, atrioventricular block and premature ventricular beats.

Precaution:

Ranitidine should be used with caution in patients with impaired renal function and hepatic dysfunction.

Pregnancy and Lactation:

It should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. As Ranitidine is secreted in human milk caution should be exercised when it is administered to a nursing mother.

Drug interaction:

Recommended doses of Zodin do not inhibit the action of the Cytochrome P-450 linked oxygenase enzymes in the liver. It has no effect on warfarin clearance or prothrombin time.

Packaging:

Zodin Tablet : Each Box contains 10 x 10 tablets in blister pack.

Zodin Syrup : Each Bottle contains 100 ml Syrup.
